What is Leaky Gut?
A healthy intestinal wall is so dense that it only allows very small molecules, the nutrients, to pass through. Under certain conditions, however, the intestinal wall can be damaged so that much larger molecules - in the form of metabolic waste and microbial toxins - penetrate the intestinal wall, get into the bloodstream and can cause chronic inflammation there.
Leaky Gut Syndrome weakens the immune system and makes us more susceptible to a variety of diseases.
Leaky good German - hole in the gut
Leaky Gut means "permeable intestine" in German and describes a condition in which the intestinal wall is damaged and thus permeable to bacteria and toxins. This can lead to inflammation in the body.
Leaky well causes
Factors that can cause leaky gut syndrome include:
- Gluten sensitivity or intolerance
- High consumption of inflammatory foods such as milk, yogurt, cheese, sugar, many carbohydrates, soy, alcohol
- Taking antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Infections such as intestinal parasites, candida and bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine
Diagnosing a leaky gut syndrome
Leaky Gut Syndrome is diagnosed through a detailed medical history, physical examination, analysis of nutrition and stool or blood tests, e.g. the Zonulin test.
Leaky gut symptoms
Typical leaky gut symptoms that can result from inflammation in the body are:
- Diseases such as asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, eczema, food allergies, fungi, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes
- High blood sugar levels
- Digestive problems such as flatulence, diarrhea, feeling of fullness or constipation.
- Frequent tiredness and listlessness
- Skin problems like eczema or psoriasis
- Heartburn, reflux
Leaky gut test
If a stool or blood test shows an increased zonulin concentration, this can be an indicator of leaky gut syndrome and various chronic diseases.
Leaky gut treatment
Treating Leaky Gut Syndrome is a very individual process that can take anywhere from a few months to a few years.
Leaky gut medication
Chemically manufactured drugs are inflammatory and therefore not suitable for curing leaky gut syndrome. Alternative and integrative medicine practitioners have been dealing with intestinal healing through proper nutrition and natural remedies for decades.
Leaky gut therapy
The most successful therapy for leaky gut syndrome is a change in diet with the avoidance of inflammatory foods. The duration of the therapy varies from person to person and can last from several months to years.
Leaky gut probiotics
Probiotics can help with leaky intestines by maintaining the normal function of the mucous membrane (lining of the intestinal wall) and protecting the lining from harmful factors such as toxins, infections and allergens.
Leaky Gut L Glutamine
For patients suffering from Leaky Gut Syndrome, it is recommended to take natural L glutamine, e.g. from bone broth or collagen powder from pasture farming. L glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid that the body cannot produce sufficiently itself under certain circumstances. It helps to regenerate the intestinal mucosa and thus close the holes in the intestine.
Leaky Good Nutrition
Proper nutrition is the key to curing Leaky Gut Syndrome. Above all, you should eat anti-inflammatory foods.
Leaky well-allowed foods
Permitted or encouraging for the recovery of Leaky Gut Syndrome are foods that help heal the intestines:
- Bone broth: The collagen-rich broth has an extraordinary intestinal healing power.
- Coconut products: Coconut helps to fight the growth of bacteria, yeast and fungi in the intestine.
- Fermented foods and probiotics: They provide good bacteria for a balanced intestinal flora.
- Herbal teas: Soothe the intestine.
- Low glycemic fruits: Are low in sugar and thus promote good gut bacteria.
- Vegetables (except tomatoes): Are food for good gut bacteria
- Olives and olive oil: Anti-inflammatory.
On the other hand, one should avoid the excessive consumption of foods that irritate the intestine. These include, in particular:
Alcohol, caffeine, milk and dairy products, refined sugar, carbohydrate-rich foods (e.g. seeds, grains, legumes, potatoes, pasta, pizza), eggs, mushrooms, nuts, highly processed foods, omega-6-rich seed oils, tomatoes.
Symptoms of Leaky Gut
The symptoms of Leaky Gut are very varied: chronic diarrhea, constipation, feeling full, nutritional deficits, fatigue, headache, difficulty concentrating, skin problems, joint pain. Reflux, heartburn, weight gain.
Leaky Gut Reflux (Relevant to 'Heartburn')
Reflux or heartburn is a typical symptom of Leaky Gut Syndrome. This is a burning sensation in the chest, which often occurs with a bitter taste in the neck or mouth.
Leaky Good Weight Loss
Leaky Gut Syndrome can affect weight loss. Chronic inflammation as a result of the permeable intestine is even more likely to lead to weight gain.
Intestinal barrier - intestinal mucosa
The protective function of the intestinal mucosa is called permeability. Leaky Gut Syndrome affects the intestinal barrier and causes toxins from the intestines to enter the bloodstream, which can then lead to chronic inflammation in the body.Leaky Good Bone Broth
